Roy Eugene Klay, 94, of Howell, MI, formally of Wayne, MI, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 5, 2023, at his residence.
Born on July 20, 1928, in Taylorville, IL to Walter and Lois. His siblings were Bill, Esther, and Lyle. He married Doris “Jeannine” on December 28, 1952, in Stonington, IL.
His will be missed and remembered by his children, Cheryl (Michael) Walsh and Kris (LeighAnn) Klay; grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Daniel) Racalla, Haley Klay and Sydney Klay.
Roy moved to Michigan in 1956 from Central Illinois where he started working as a teach and then administrator for the Wayne-Westland School District for 30 years. And then he began his Kiwanis career where he was elected Governor for the Michigan District of Kiwanis International. He retired from Kiwanis at the age of 92 with 60 years of perfect attendance.
Roy was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris “Jeannine” on January 26, 2020. The final resting place for both Roy and his wife will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI.
